A woman of courage, Bethany represents what anonymous heroes do: save lives.
About Bethany
I am Anita Simon, the Founder and CEO of Live Like Bethany (LLB), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers training and certifications for professional swim lessons and CPR training. Founded in June 2020, Live Like Bethany was established in honor of my daughter, Bethany Lartigue, who passed away on May 16, 2020. Bethany was a great role model and inspiration to many during her lifetime and left us valuable lessons in her passing away that we wish to carry on.
During the unfortunate day of her death, Beth was visiting at a friend’s house in the summery weather. Some children were playing by the pool unattended when she suddenly saw a boy struggling to stay afloat in the pool. Although Beth loved water recreation but was not a strong swimmer, she fearlessly dived right into the pool without a second thought to save the boy’s life. Sadly, she never made it out of the pool, and both she and the boy drowned.
Early in Bethany’s teenage years she dreamt of becoming a police officer. While in high school she joined the Red Oak Police Explorers program where Bethany was promoted to the rank of Sargent. She often led her team to police explorer competitions. Frequently ranking first place in precision pistol competitions and tactical maneuver contests.
Beth loved to roller skate. She was also a talented athlete with a fierce passion for football. She played on both offense and defense with the Arlington Impact, women’s league. She was incredibly versatile and could effortlessly switch from football pads and cleats to makeup, slinky dresses, and heels. A great melophilia and DJ, Beth could stir the Ammeter Hour at a local radio station in Dallas to life with electrifying music.
Beth’s story is a heroic and glorious act of selflessness whose sad ending is of someone who valued another person’s life so much that she was willing to sacrifice her own. I miss her terribly to date, and my heart is irreparably broken.
Whereas water provides excellent recreation and refreshment, it is dangerous for children as well as adults who cannot swim. Having experienced the haunting loss of my dear child, I do not wish any other family to go through a similar ordeal. At Live Like Bethany, we are dedicated to ensuring that people can swim safely and train them to save others who could be at the risk of drowning. Your contribution is valuable to enabling us to stop such an awful tragedy from happening ever again.
